Begin by meeting with a mortgage broker to find out your buying power. Everyone should have an estimated monthly payment that they are comfortable with before beginning the home buying process. Knowing how much you can afford is crucial, sellers will be more receptive to potential buyers who have been pre-approved. Pre-Approval means that you, the buyer, have actually applied for a mortgage and received a commitment in writing from a lender.
Make your Needs & Wants lists. The first should be a list of things you need (i.e., specific number of bedrooms based of the size of your family, bathrooms, location, etc.). The second list should be your wants or wishes, things that you would like to have, but will not make or break the purchase (hardwood floors, pool, den, large fenced in yard, etc.). These lists will help keep you on track when you are looking at different homes in the area. Additionally, knowing your preferred location(s) is a huge step. If you're picking a home based off future schools for your children or your commute to work it is essential to know the area(s) you'd like to call home -- this is where our expertise in the Tampa Bay area communities will come in handy when assisting you in finding the right location for your needs.
